Scripture Reading: John 1:1-5 (KJV) "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."

Reflection:

The opening verses of the Gospel of John are profound and foundational to our understanding of who Jesus is. John begins by establishing the eternal nature of Christ, referring to Him as "the Word." This passage reminds us that Jesus is not just a historical figure but the very essence of God's communication and presence in the world.

The phrase "In the beginning" echoes the start of Genesis, linking Jesus to the creation of the world. It emphasizes that Jesus was present with God from the very start and that through Him, all things were made. This underscores the power and divinity of Christ, affirming that He is both fully God and fully man.

The verses also highlight that in Jesus is life, and this life is the light of men. This light shines in the darkness, symbolizing hope, truth, and salvation. Despite the darkness in the world, it cannot overcome the light of Christ. This is a powerful reminder that no matter how dark our circumstances may seem, the light of Jesus is always present and victorious.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, who is the Word and the Light of the world. Help us to understand and embrace His eternal nature and divine power. May His light shine brightly in our lives, dispelling any darkness we may face. Guide us to live in a way that reflects His love and truth. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Application:

Take a moment today to reflect on the presence of Jesus in your life. Consider how His light has guided you through difficult times and how you can share that light with others. Whether through a kind word, a helping hand, or a moment of prayer, let His light shine through you.
