Scripture: Luke 7:13-15 (KJV) "And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother."
Devotional:
In the Gospel of Luke, we see a vivid portrayal of Jesus' compassion and power. One of the most touching stories is found in Luke 7:11-17, where Jesus raises the widow's son at Nain. This passage highlights not only Jesus' miraculous power but also His deep compassion for those who are suffering.
As Jesus approached the town of Nain, He encountered a funeral procession. A widow was mourning the loss of her only son. In those times, a widow without a son would have faced a future of extreme hardship and vulnerability. Jesus, seeing her sorrow, was moved with compassion.
The word "compassion" here is significant. It indicates a deep, heartfelt sympathy and a desire to alleviate suffering. Jesus' compassion led Him to action. He approached the bier, touched it, and spoke life into the young man, saying, "Young man, I say unto thee, Arise." The young man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus delivered him back to his mother.
This miracle is a powerful reminder of Jesus' love and care for us. He sees our pain and suffering, and He is moved with compassion. He has the power to bring life and hope into our darkest situations.
Reflection:
1. Jesus Sees Our Pain: Just as Jesus saw the widow's sorrow, He sees our struggles and heartaches. We are never alone in our suffering.
2. Jesus is Compassionate: His heart is full of love and compassion for us. He cares deeply about our well-being and is moved by our pain.
3. Jesus Brings Life: He has the power to transform our situations, bringing life and hope where there was once despair.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank You for Your compassion and love. Thank You for seeing our pain and for being with us in our struggles. Help us to trust in Your power to bring life and hope into our situations. May we always remember that You are a compassionate and loving Savior who cares deeply for us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
